Ilo, is located in the South coast of Peru, to 1250 km of Lima and 200 km of the border with Chile.

Account with a population near the 80.000 inhabitants. Their main economic activities are miner--metallurgical, fishing, commerce and harbor activities; reason why one of the most important ports of the south of the Country is considered.

The province of Ilo, comprises of the department of Moquegua that is located the south of the country, formed part of the great Peruvian Coastal desert and Chilean Nor, reason why the environmental conditions are typical of hyperbarren zones as they are it the rain absence, irregular and steep topography.

The ground of the province of Ilo is generally "calichoso" in the urban helmet; rocky, "calichoso" and sandy in sandy "Wireless Pampas" and frank in the beginnings of hills; therefore one of its characteristics is the reduced supply of natural areas with presence of arboreal and bush species.

Ilo, in spite of facing highly limiting factors as they are it the type of ground and the little rain presence, tells on experiences in adaptation of forest species this type of climate and land. These species are propagated in the Municipal Breeding ground " San Gerónimo" , which are donated to schools and the slumses ask for that them; this previous verification of which the area destined is adapted..

The Forest of Cata Cata approximately is located 7 km of the port of Ilo. Within the surface assigned to the Forest of Cata Cata, it has been developed for 15 years, a small very colorful and particular forest constituted by species of flora that have been developed in climatic conditions very adverse and watered by waste waters of the plant of potable water treatment of the City. The characteristics of this green space in contrast to the zones eriazas of the surroundings, confer a special interest to him that must be valued by the visitors like by the scientific community of Peru and the World.

The ground of the forest of Cata Cata calichoso this characterized for being almost in its totality; but also zones exist in which the type of ground is frank sandy. This type of ground makes that the recovery of the forest as also the one of the present vegetal species is even more slower. If to this we added that the water with which the watered one is realised contains arsenic, we will realize that we must consider these factors like limitingest for the recovery of the forest.

The project " Environmental development of the Forest of Cata Cata"; , it must like intention equip to the city of Ilo and the South of the Peru of a recreational, cultural space and of high ecological value through the implementation of a set of physical elements that guarantee the viable development of the forest.

Thus this one first stage is realised in phases considering the amount of money assigned to the project by every year; until the moment it has been realised three phases of the first stage of the project, with which an advance of approximately 60% with respect to the recovery and conservation of the vegetal species found in the Forest of Cata Cata has been obtained (Tamarix sp., Adminisers extreme unction to European L, Schinus molle L., among others), as well lacks to afforest the zones assigned to the bush layers and arboreal; as far as the structural part an advance of approximately 10% has been obtained. Reason why it is necessary that in the following years it is continued assigning money for the execution of the works that not yet have been realised.
