Environmetal Administration
Introduction
Ilo, is a county with characteristic environmental extremely restrictive for its development as the shortage of water, foods and energy that show its condition of artificial city as well as its maintenance fragility in the time. Paradoxically account with important strengths among which highlight their geopolitical location, their human resources, natural ecosystems and constructions that configure a city with a peculiar beauty located in one of the most arid deserts in the world.
The industrial development and the urban growth of the city has affected the environment of the same one severely, the waste of the industrial and urban activities impact on the ecosystems, the agricultural activities, the handmade fishing and the human health.
Advance in the Environmental Administration
Significant advances exist in the Environmental Administration, one comes developing systematic efforts in the environmental improvement of the town under the leadership of the Provincial Municipality together with the social organizations and the industrial sectors.
   
The most significant institutional expression constitutes it the lead on the part of the Provincial Municipality of Ilo the and the Consejo Multisectorial of the protected Area of Punta de Coles.
       
Coastal Levee of Ilo
It is also totally involved in the execution of the Proyecto Evaluación of the Environmental Impact; in the execution and development of the Monitoring of the quality of air of the pollutant atmospheric dioxide of sulfur (SO2) and of the goal of Environmental Education and of the Project of Afforestation; as the maintenance of the Municipal Tree nursery and of the Ecological Park of Cata Cata.
   
Projects and Environmental Activities
In the Green Front
The Provincial Municipality of ILO presides over the Consejo Multisectorial of the Center Pilot of Scientific Investigation and Environmental Development of Punta de Coles; where at the moment one comes working in the elaboration of the plan of Environmental Administration of Punta de Coles.
   
Forest of the Ecological Park of Cata Cata
At the moment the MPI comes executing the construction of the Ecological Park of Cata Cata.
 
In the Brown Front
At the moment the Mayor of the MPI is the President of the Group of Environmental Studies (GESTA) which has as objective the one of generating the “Plan to Clean the Air of ILO” and it has been elaborated in the year 2004 the following studies:
• Inventory of emissions of mobile sources.
• Inventory of emissions of fixed sources.
The projects that comes executing the MPI:
• Continuous Monitoring of SO2.
• Atmosfheric Plan of Contingency.
• Likewise it continuous working in the project Evaluation of    the Environmental Impact that comes implementing the    following plans:
Station of Monitoring of SO2
¬ Plan for the Monitoring of the Quality of the    Waters.
¬ Plan for the Monitoring of annoying noises with    the acquisition of a sonómeter.

• The System of Local Information has been placed in the web page    where the information corresponding to the different works    developed by the MPI in what you fear is environmental it is.
• Has been implemented the goal Environmental Education in the    project evaluation of the Environmental Impact.
